Once upon a time

AKA Windaria

Often an anime show is best remembered for being an shining example of something. If people can remember a show out of the vast sea of anime because it makes a point more clearly than it's fellow shows. Once upon a time is a shining example of two things, bad dubbing and why people hate Carl Macek.

Alan is a simple farmer in the valley that lies between Lunaria and the Shadow lands. One day while selling his vegtables in Lunaria a saboteur tries to flood the city and Alan  manages to minimize the damage. The act was a result of the rising tensions between Lunaria and the Shadow lands and this act is the straw the broke the camel's back. Even the fact that the prince of the Shadow lands and the princess of Lunaria are in love probably won't avert war. Unbeknownst to Alan at the time he would play a great part in this war and commit acts that he will later regret. Rating anime

I have a hard time figuring out how good of a movie Windaria is, but one thing I say with certainty, Once upon a time is edited into a mess. The most horrid case of this is the fact that characters will change motivations at a drop of a hat. I just don't find it plausible that anyone would take up someone else's cause right after they came after you with a knife for disagreeing with you but you manage kill them instead. About the only good thing I can think of is that the Shadow land soldiers have a comically bad sense of discipline. This is one to avoid, unless you need something to make fun of.

Orphen 2 revenge

The best sequels are often stories based off of the hero type that can be called into action whenever the world needs saving and they stay good as long the writer can come up with ideas. This is the case with Orphen (even if he isn't all that heroic) so the second season isn't one to fear.

Orphen, Cleao and Majic are on the road again this time traveling to a hot springs. I'm watching here: ranktopten Along the way Orphen is plagued by strange nightmares. Also monsters are randomly appearing and attacking him. Also about this time a young woman by the name of Lycoris finds the group and demands that Orphen appear before the Royal public order of knighthood. These strange and apparently unrelated things keep happening, is there a reason behind all of this? Anyway Orphen has handled the impossible and come out on top but can he deal with this new threat?

Although it is a sequel Orphen 2 is different from it's predecessor in many ways. The most obvious is that the second season is far more comedic than the first. There is an ongoing plot anddrama but this is saved for the more important times in the show. Although opinions vary I thought it was executed quite well. The presentation of Orphen's magic also changed but that was a change I didn't like. I found Lycoris to a be a very welcome addition to the cast as well. Overall if you watched the first season of Orphen you might as well watch the second.

Maburaho

In a world like our own except everyone can use magic Kazuki Shikimori is a loser because he can't use it that often. In fact he only has eight uses for the rest of his life. On the bright side his family has a bunch of famous wizards in it and it is very likely that Kazuki's children will be amazing wizards. For that reason women suddenly find him interesting Especially Kuriko and Rin. There is one other girl named Yuna who is also interested in Kazuki but possibly for a different reason.

Maburaho is a somewhat stereotypical anime show about some loser and the girls that love him. Although I fault no one for not wanting to see this show based on that fact I still say it is a pretty good show. The main reason is that manages not to rely to heavily on any premise or joke for too long. There is also a big suprise that happens in the middle of the show. The characters are not especially deep but like the comedy they manage to not stick to any one character trait for too long.

The animation for Maburaho is nice but just generally average. It is filled with bright colors, cute characters and fairly simply CG work.

This show is a simply average show that is squarely targeted at young men. Still if you can tolerate shows of this type you should find it to be fun show. I give Maburaho a rating of good.
